White Chocolate Pilsner -Bacchus Brewing

March 9, 2021 – 1:34 pm 1 Comment

Another Great Growler review! This Growler fill comes from the Prince of Wales Hotel Bottlelo in Merewether Newcastle Australia. An awesome unique brew to review a White Chocolate Pilsner!

This brew hails from the Bacchus brewery up in Brisbane Queensland Australia which is situated at the Homebrew shop where I got my Basic Keg set up from. Great bunch of blokes to deal with if you are into home brewing by the way.

Anyways on to the brew review!

Pours a wonderful bright golden hue with a fluffy white bubbly head which hangs around for a while. On the nose a big vanilla essence aroma along with some noble hop spice.

Had this one nice ‘an cold goes down smooth as with a quite vanilla bean ice cream/custard flavor on the front then towards the end the slight but present bitter bite that is expected from a decent pils.

Quite refreshing and abit sweet but with that bitter finish this is a awesome example of experimental brewing at its best. Not overdone at all. The grains used and hops work well with the white choc.

For a food match this one is quite hard perhaps Mexican food would work with this one. Tangy Salsa and soft tacos come to mind when having a slightly sweet pils at hand.

I used to like white chocolate quite alot when I was younger (Herseys cookies and cream bars hmmm) and now I have found the PROPER beer equivalent and its does it’s job well.

When the beer poured out?
Sharp citrusy aroma.

How’s the taste?
Very fruity of sweetness with light sour and sweetness of lychee fruit. At 3.6% abv the beer have a light bitter end. Refreshing carbonation with nice balance of taste, not much after taste.

What’s the colour of the beer?
Golden pale.

Where to drink?
Drank it at Taps Beer Bar @ Jalan Nagasari, KL, aslo available at Ales & Lagers.

My Opinion:
With such nice flavour, opening with starter food like salad and soup with be very nice and refreshing. The beer is not overpower at the same time have nice refreshing taste. Love it as starter beer.

Hitachino Nest Beer Pilsner

September 5, 2020 – 9:00 am 2 Comments

The Hitachino Nest styled pilsner brewed by Kiuchi Brewery in Ibaraki-ken, Japan.
This pilsner contained 5% ABV, a bottom fermented beer.

Appearance of this beer in yellowish gold color with whitish head, thinning away.

Nose from the glass, and the bottle, decent aromas of citrusy and malt.

Palate was nice medium body, easy down, malt, citrusy, and their use of sorachi ace hop give an interesting hint of bitter finish.

As the beer goes warmer, the citrusy hop just got better, the palate of citrus sweetness, a little gingerish if i taste right.

I had this Hitachino Nest beer at Brewers’ Craft at Clementi, Singapore.

Both this new beer is from France.

Licorne Bio is an organic beer, a golden lager.

Boris The Alsatian Flask is pilsner.

So far I don’t have much detail on the beer, until I taste it, more information will be given once I tried it.

The BLUE GIRL In Hong Kong

Not exactly sure whether you boys and girls watch HK TVB productions; but the beer product placement  in one of the series had strongly captured my attention and as a result… gave me an urge to try it while I was on a trip to HK – It was the Blue Girl (藍妹啤酒).  I bought it from one of the HK supermarkets “Wellcome” for about HK$9 (RM4); which is actually freaking cheap for an imported pilsner beer.

You can pretty much find it everywhere in HK especially in seafood restaurants; and despite being implied as a premium German import, the liquid is actually brewed by Oriental Brewery Co. Ltd in Seoul, South Korea.  Yes, the same brewery that produces OB Beer and surprisingly there were evidently some similarities in terms of taste for both OB and Blue Girl.

Taste-wise was sweetly refreshing with a moment of crisp sensation (upper moderate carbonation) in the mouth.  It’s generally a light beer with 5% abv that has a tinge of citrusy and malty character – would recommend having this with your typical Chinese meal. I would reckon it’ll be just right if this beer was parked slightly below the other bigger brands such as Carlsberg and Tiger if we were to place it into our local markets.

I’m just wondering if any local brewers might consider getting this type of food beer into our Malaysian market since most Malaysians do live to eat! So… would you actually give it a go? XD
