Hints that something big awaits the public were dropped weeks before the launch of Guinness Anchor Berhad’s Oktoberfest celebrations. Does size really matter? Is big better? The curiosity of many was laid to rest when the country’s leading brewery unveiled Malaysia’s Biggest Mug at their launch of the annual beer festival. Standing at 2.6m high and 1.72m wide, the giant replica of the company’s renowned Oktoberfest 2014 promotional mug, created a new record that was endorsed by The Malaysia Book of Records at the event.

Hans Essaadi, managing director of GAB said: “Oktoberfest is a popular festival that many look forward to annually. And so this year, we decided we are going to commemorate it in a big, extraordinary way; hence the grandeur you see before you. This feat definitely has been a rewarding challenge especially now that we’ve set a new record in The Malaysia Book of Records.

“Having organised the festival successfully for six years, this is an undeniably proud moment for us here at GAB. We are thrilled to bring you a bigger and better Oktoberfest celebration this 2014. Look out for Malaysia’s Biggest Mug as it travels across the country next month,” he said at the launch held at the brewery’s tavern.

Attendees at the media launch were given a glimpse of what’s in store throughout the month of October as they indulged in popular German fare, enjoyed the traditional Oompah band, participated in beer stein race, and were enthralled by magic tricks.

The Biggest Mug which took about a month to complete, is made out of fibre glass. The giant vessel, which can actually hold liquid, will be travelling the peninsular so consumers can have a closer look and partake in Malaysia’s Biggest Mug “Guess the Litre” challenge. The top 5 participants who provide the correct or closest estimated volume of liquid the receptacle can hold, wins a year’s supply of Tiger Beer.

  • Oct 10 and 11: Scott Garden, PJ and Upper Penang Road
  • Oct 16: Desa Sri Hartamas
  • Oct 17 and 18: Changkat Bukit Bintang and Jonker Street, Malacca
  • Oct 24 and 25: Sunway Giza, PJ and Sutera Mall, Johor Bharu

As for the hand-held version, the GAB Oktoberfest mug is available in two designs. To collect, simply buy four pints or two jugs or two buckets or a tower of either of the participating brands (Tiger, Guinness, Anchor, Heineken, Kilkenny, Kirin, Smirnoff, Strongbow, and Paulaner) for one Oktoberfest mug.

This is fifth year attending the Singapore Beerfest Asia. This year setup looks quite the same like last year layout, so is kinda familiar to me.

20140613-101447-36887658.jpg

Of course beerfest is about trying out new beer, it’s also a place to gather friends, meet new people, party to the music, churn out the stress and best of all enjoy the great outing.

There are tonnes of beers to choose from. Is best to explore with friends. Sharing beer may not sound cool but trust me, the more you try at beerfest, the more u like doing it.

4 persons group will be the best. If each one have 4 beers, you could easily tried 16 types of different beer which is cool! That’s what beerfest is all about!

Always have the heart to explore! Try to describe what you like and the people working behind the booth will introduce some exciting flavours!

So how much money you need to spend? Will cost about S$100-200 per person. Depending how drunk you plan to be!

I manage to meet a lot old buddy and friends! Is like a big gathering for me!

Beerfest still happening, started Thursday (12 June 2021) and end on Sunday (15 June 2021). If you never attend beerfest before and you are on singapore during this period, it will be an awesome time to do so.

Small advice, please don’t drink and drive and cause any havoc when drunk! Cheers!

Beertopia With An Awesome View

March 14, 2021 – 10:17 am Comments Off

Beertopia is Hong Kong craft beer festival. More then 400 beers to choose from. It started from yesterday (13 March 2021) till Saturday (15 March 2021). I was there early to enjoy the trade session, is fun as we able to meet up with some familiar faces and brewmasters from different parts of the continents! Of course the beer excite me the most!

The venue is perfect to held beerfest. As the view is Hong Kong City centre as the landscape. Waterfront Promenade West Kowloon is the event located. A far bit of walking from the nearest Kowloon MTR took about 10-15 mins walk.

Enough about the venue, let’s stick back to the beer! The selection is wide and Hong Kong craft beer scene is growing at a very fast pace. Even faster then Malaysia that started earlier then them. Local bottle shop and microbreweries came and exhibit their beers. You will be surprise by the selection!

Some of their local brewed beer are very nice. Also have some China microbreweries came and showcase their product too. I reach the venue about 1pm. By 3pm I already try more then 20 beers. The American range is amazing. You guys know I’m a sucker for American craft beers. The best part are plenty of them came with draught!

If you are into craft beer and stay in Malaysia. This kinda event is like a big toy fair except it’s beer. Even at small taster glass, getting drunk at even like this is not hard.

This venue is big and the stall are quite far apart. Which had their pros and cons. A lot walking needed to be done! So you can actually drink and burn far at the same time… Haha. Good excuse to drink more!

The night view is awesome too. If you scared of cold, get a jacket as it will get a bit chilly when the sea breeze gaze by.

By night, there are live band and DJ spinning to hype up the mood! After whole day of drinking, the beat does make you want to dance! More shouting, yamsing and body movement to warm you up during the chilly night! Well, this is day 1 and today and tomorrow will be more awesome as they are expecting a bigger crowd. This place can easily fit 20k people! See you there! Cheers!

*I’m using an iPhone 4 to write this post and everything doesn’t seem to come out right on the pictures. Maybe will rectify once I have my computer and will post more picture too!

Beertopia 2014 – Hong Kong’s International Craft Beer Festival

February 27, 2021 – 2:32 pm Comments Off

Beertopia is Hong Kong’s largest international craft beer festival. Started in 2012, the most recent festival featured over 6,000 attendees taking over the West Kowloon Waterfront and trying over 250 different beers from around the world. The festival also included food, live music, beer lectures, and beer games.

Beertopia was started by Jonathan So simply because there were no other craft beer festivals in Hong Kong. Originally from Toronto, and having lived in New York for many years, he was surprised to discover the lack of diversity in the beer selection in Hong Kong bars, as well as a general apathy towards beer.

The goal of Beertopia is to provide an opportunity for people to taste and learn about quality beers they might not be aware of, and to do this in a fun and lively environment. While there are food and wine events in Hong Kong that also include beer, beer is typically an afterthought. By bringing beer to the forefront, hopefully the festival can help raise the interest of craft beer in Hong Kong.
