Sorry to say.. me no like-y.. as taste is personal I am sure this is one great trappist beer but it just doesn’t suit my taste.
It more bubbly than most, producing a “harder” foam, the colour is lighter and a bit cloudy which is all ok but the body is mmm… flat.. the bubbliness of it is too distracting that I fine the whole beer flat without much character.. pai seh.. so critical arr.. but this is my 2 cents.
The taste itself is “earthy” and personally I am not into woody or earthy sort of feel for my alcohol- like eating sand or biting a tree bark.. I don’t mean that this beer is bad- just a parable hehehe.. it’s just that this type of taste is not my favourite even in wine when it is supposed to be much appreciated and it is personal. i feel kina bad about giving a bad review to it when i know “it is me” and “not you (the beer)” situation.
Anyways, it is light and remains light as it sat in my glass.. and the bubble also stayed for a fair bit of time. It is very easy to drink and I think will go well with food because it does not overwhelm and is easy to gulp down.. would be good with some tom yam .. flavourful thai food.. mmm.. just to balance the flat taste of it.. (still complaining… wakaka).
If you generally do not like ale because it is too thick or too bitter.. maybe this is something good for you to start build up the taste for darker beer and move to better things.. or maybe you will simply like it..for me.. mm.. so-so.. depending on the food it goes with I guess, to have it alone is.. so so.. but if you want to buy me a crate, I will not say no… hehehe

very interesting, for me most bubbly beer goes nicely with finger food and fried stuff. Fried chicken, fries or even wanton will goes nicely. Tomyam normally cover the taste of beer, is good to have beer that are a bit of citrus flavour to enhance the taste. Cheers!
