The Inaugural HAPA-GAB Excellence Award 2012

September 27, 2020 – 9:57 am Comments Off

Beating 69 participating outlets,  WIP emerged as the big winner at the inaugural HAPA-GAB excellence Award 2012 taking home the coveted ‘Outlet of the Year’ award. Malaysia’s F&B elite gathered for the inaugural HAPA-GAB Excellence Awards 2012 at Hilton, Kuala Lumpur today.

WIP won the award competing against 40 finalists from best product quality, service excellence, most innovative guest experience and best entertainment outlet award categories.

The event which saw awards presented for 5 categories was organized by Guinness Anchor Berhad and HAPA, icons in the F&B industry. The award categories were for Best Product Quality, Service Excellence, Most Innovative Guest Experience, Best Entertainment outlet and the Outlet of the Year award.

Chin’s Stylish Chinese Cuisine won the ‘Best Product Quality’ & ‘Most Innovative Guest Experience’ award while SOULed OUT, Sri Hartamas clinched the ‘Service Excellence’ award. The Beer Factory, Setia Walk came out tops for the ‘Best Entertainment Outlet’.

The awards was a glitzy black tie affair was designed to honour F&B establishments and professionals that have helped to raise the standards of quality and service in the F&B industry and ultimately boost Malaysia’s tourism sector. Those who came for the awards ceremony were dressed like stars in silky gowns and stylish suits in line with its theme ‘A Night of Stars’.

GAB Sales Director Thum Chee Yuen said the awards night was a way to celebrate many years of cooperation and friendship with its valued trade partners. He said that the GAB Academy, set up in 2009 to train frontline staff, had benefitted 5,000 staff from 900 outlets.

“Tonight, we go a step further with the HAPA-GAB Excellence Awards by recognizing deserving F&B outlets who are also graduates of the Academy.”

“Through this, we hope to add some healthy competition to the mix and provide opportunities for our trade partners to set new highs for themselves in terms of customer service,” he said in his welcoming speech at Hilton KL.

Ms. Jennifer Ong, founder and chairman of HAPA said she strongly believes that business owners on the F&B industry must provide a standard of excellence for others to follow to have a competitive edge.

“In that respect, the HAPA-GAB Excellence Award serves as a yardstick in acknowledging the top-tier F&B outlets that ensure quality and service excellence across multiple categories,” states Jennifer.

While being served a delectable array of specially crafted dishes infused with GAB’s portfolio of award winning beers, the audience was also entertained throughout the night by Joanne Yeoh and her smooth riffs on the violin as well as funny man, Harith Iskander and his slapstick humour.

There were also 2 mystery awards given for ‘Best F&B concept’ and ‘Best Branding’ which were won by The Geographer Adventure Restaurant & Bar and Sid’s Pubs respectively.

GAB believes that service excellence begins at the grassroots and in that spirit, 10 of the top performing HEROs to emerge from the GAB training program were also recognized and awarded during the gala dinner. The top 5 HEROs will be sent on an all expense paid study-trip to Australia to further increase their skills and experience in new and innovative F&B service concepts.

The HAPA-GAB Excellence award program, the brainchild of GAB stemmed from the company’s obsession with quality. This focus and approach to quality excellence led the company to its 11th year of consecutive growth. Realizing that the quality of its brew can only be appreciated if it’s served to the consumers in its intended form, GAB went on t o setup the GAB Academy to train its F&B partners low to senior level staff on product knowledge, as well as serving and selling skill.

On top of the awards, GAB is continuing to invest in its trade programs as part of its long term mission to assist its trade partners to excel in their business. The re-launch of the GAB Academy to GAB Professional Solutions, which made its debut at the gala dinner tonight with the unveiling of its new logo is a step forward in that direction.

Mr Thum said, “The GABPS aims to take training and service quality to even greater heights through the introduction of ground breaking training features. For example, instead of getting trade partners to come to us, we are going to our trade partners through Malaysia’s first mobile training centre.”

The mobile training centre will bring GAB’s training program to their doorstep and reach even more of its trade partners on a national scale. A series of expos and forums are also in the pipeline as part of its service to give their F&B partners the opportunity to exchange ideas, best practices and tap into fresh new insights.
