App For Your Beer Hunt

May 27, 2021 – 10:30 am Comments Off

There are too many craft beers out there with selections that most can’t even remember the name. Thankfully with Technology on our mobile devices, we can easily snap the picture of the beer we drink and help us remember it.  Another easier solution is using an App on iOS or Android devices called Untappd.

You can key in and record down the beer you like at the same time rate then and load picture on it. Best part is you can even share it online on your social media or check out what your friends are drinking.

Is good as a reference for what you have drink and help me store up the beer you have drank before. You can download the app by going to their website https://untappd.com, have fun checking in with the beer and start hunting!

This was one of the early place that developed my interest in craft beer about 2 years ago when it was still named Heart of House. The partnership of this gastropub has split and one of the owner has branch out and set up his own place.

According to Derek (the owner), they have struck an exclusive deal with Singapore’s American Craft Beer Club. They will provide some very attractive price to their offerings of American craftbeer to add on top of the delicious food like Otah-otah pizza and fried chicken wings that is to be offered. More beer varieties will be offered on tap and also some limited edition American craftbeer.

It is situated right beside NTUC along Kim Tian Road, you will not missed the outdoor table and flooring tiled with craftbeer bottle caps that beautifully decorate the place. However be informed though, that Potbellies will be rename to Lee Tai Fu soon, due to unintentional infringement of the same name of an establishment in the USA. Address can be found as follow.

What Is The Bar Scene In Malaysia For 2013?

May 10, 2021 – 10:54 am 1 Comment

Almost half a year has gone, we are entering to the next half. Nothing much has change in the beer industry, except that there will be another price hike of 3-4% in June for both GAB and Carlsberg product in Malaysia.

For me, last year is a boring beer scene year. We didn’t see many new concept bars and what happen is, many bars move from KL town to Ipoh or Penang. While the scene here drop to a standard boring same thing. All the new bars in the market are just a copy of other bars that doesn’t show much of idea input to opening a bar.

Of course, lately many people are toying with opening a cocktail bar. One that just opened 1 month back is Omakase + Appreciate at Ming Annexe Building in KL. A small hidden place in town. More bars are looking for new drinks to add on to their menus.

Of course, I’m mostly busy with my own Ales & Lagers, which for many is quite hidden as well. We did get a lot of enquiries from many customer about the beer market here. If you asked me, I’ll be like an opposition slogan “UBAH”. I think bar should now change and adapt into different scenario, rather then just fighting for the market, we create a different genre to capture the market. Of course, this mean a lot of advertising and promotion to capture the crowd.

The best place doesn’t mean it’s crowded but thumbs up given by the customer every time they came. Many consumer are looking for something new and fresh but the market don’t offer this type of alternative. Not many willing to take the risk, just like Taps Beer Bar open more then 1 year now many beer drinkers still haven’t pay them a visit to try good craft beers for around the world. Most consumer will go for advertise brand, but sometimes is the specialty places that offer the best thing in town.

More and more specialty bar scene are setup and many are in the planning. I hear there will be tequila bar coming out soon, more whisky bar are in the midst of planning. I have no doubt may of this place will be a big hit if they push the right concept. Concept of just having fun in a place is no more that outstanding this days. Weirdly, the trend setter of today is not the young 20-30 age group. They are actually the part that hold back the industry, getting drunk and have no clue what they drank.

The 30-40 age group have become the module of trend setter that eyeing for specialty product and this will certainly boost bar concept. Prices will always determine the crowd but noble good product will have a good range of customer visiting the places.

I hope new concept bars come in to KL soon to start the trend, I have heard the plea for good places lately where many business owner are lacking in concepts and ideas. Stop following the trend and start creating a new idea that can capture a niche market that will evolve.

For many out there, a beer is still a beer, but for beer fanatic like me a beer means a lot of things. The saying goes, “Good People Drink Good Beer”. Cheers!

There’s A Lot Of New Beer In KL

February 28, 2021 – 2:10 pm Comments Off

When I started Beerbeer.org, KL may only have 50-60 types of beers. Today, I think we roughly have 400 types of beer to choose from. From that 400, consumer only drink the usual 5-10 types that most pub/bar/places offers. All this other type of beers is not easy to find plus is not that familiar to consumer.

In many local sundry shop you can find cheap and high alcohol beer that can knock you off after 2 cans but once a while you able to find some nice beer being offer there. Then come to craft beers, which is growing around the world but not many people in Malaysia know about it as it’s not widely available in bars plus it’s a bit pricy.

How many different types of beers have you tried? Have you downloaded Untappd app on your iPhone or Androids? This App let you record down the beer you have drank. So you can keep track with all the beers you have drank.

Is not easy to promote new beer in the market unless the beer is really cheap and consumer are willing to fork out that money to try the beers. Other then that asking normal consumer to search for beers is not something consumer will do unless they are a big beer head like me.

None the less, there is more then 100 types of Craft Beers available in KL right now and this number will slowly grow. Unless the local smuggler decided to smuggle in good quality craft and not those animal brand with high alcohol content, then things may change in the craft beer scene… haha

Start hunting for good beer! Maybe I should start back a long lost idea which I had, which is setting up a Beer Club! That would be fun! Cheers and happy hunting for new beers in KL!

Quantity Vs Quality

February 6, 2021 – 1:26 pm Comments Off

Quality vs quantity, which is over which? This question has always pop up every time I introduce some imported beers to first timer to try. Some would said drink one bottle of this, I can drink 5 bottles of Tiger Beer. Other would said I rather drink this 1 bottle of beer then 5 bottles of Tiger Beer.

Is in fact no right or wrong answer but how much you know how to enjoy your beer. Malaysian have produce many great drinkers that have spread their wing in oversea. We have been train to be quantity drinkers since the beginning. How many country you see beer tower serve on the table, because 5 small bottle are just overacted until you order the beer tower… haha

I’ve opened a beer shop, customer also having dilemma of choosing. Quantity or quality? Sometimes they did both together. Sometimes they only did the quality at my place and then moved on to somewhere else to satisfy the quantity of beers.

Average person can drink 3 bottles without any problem are consider average. Able to drink 6 bottles are consider quite good, able to count how many you drank after that is consider great. Anything above 10 bottles and still able to know what is happening is consider master of drunk. Of course the period of the drinking counts too.

Some are fast drinker, some are slow drinkers but the main aim in drinking is to be happy. Get together with friends to have a great time. For me I did both quantity and quality but on different occasions. Which ever you choose to do, you always have your own point to justify. The most important thing is enjoy your drink, as it’s not worth it to get hangover from the drink you dislike. Cheers!
