Bar Snacks

May 12, 2021 – 10:50 am Comments Off

We Malaysian like to eat, but when comes to bar food I always felt we are way under par. Especially on beer snacks. We always stick back to the food that are common and save. Example French fries, burger and chicken wings.

With my own bar now, to think of what to serve for food is not something as easy as 123. Luckily we outsource the kitchen to talented people. That can chunk out good food. We keep our menu simple. We try not to do more then 10 item a day. So the ingredient is always fresh and a forever changing menu like the beers we are offering.

Most customer will play save but once a while an adventurous customer will break free and order something unique in the menu. So far we have offer pate on toast, Cincalok Salsa and Fried Gizzard to stir up the something unique to bar snack that you hardly can find else where.

As time goes by we will add on more unique flavour to match up with the beers. Hope what we do here can change the local bars to bring on more variants of unique taste to customers. Cheers!

The month of October sees the birth of a well established watering hole in Singapore, Nickeldime Drafthouse. Situated at a strategic location of Novena, it’s just 5 minutes walk from the MRT station.

The Beers
Craftbeers from American, British to Belgium. From Lager, India Pale Ale to Porter, the varieties of beer will spoil you for choice. If the bottled beers variety is not enough, there’s 15 taps with fresh from the kegs are served everyday. Proceed to the counter and look for the friendly bartender for what they have to offer that day on draft.

The Food
Beer is definitely the theme here. As if the vast amount of beer selection is not enough, the food is inspired and infused with beer. With good selection of bar bites, pizza, burgers and ribs for the protein hungry patrons, the food will not disappoint.

Potbellies (Soon to be named Lee Tai Fu) in Singapore

July 24, 2021 – 9:30 am Comments Off

This was one of the early place that developed my interest in craft beer about 2 years ago when it was still named Heart of House. The partnership of this gastropub has split and one of the owner has branch out and set up his own place.

Now Derek, the owner of Potbellies has set out on his own to set up this gastropub that focus on good food and affordable good craft beer. Lots of American craft beer, Germans, Belgians and ciders to be offered here.

If IPA, Saison, Porter, Cider and Weissbier are something that hit hard on your thirst, then Potbellies is the place for you. According to Derek (the owner), they have struck an exclusive deal with Singapore’s American Craft Beer Club. They will provide some very attractive price to their offerings of American craftbeer to add on top of the delicious food like Otah-otah pizza and fried chicken wings that is to be offered. More beer varieties will be offered on tap and also some limited edition American craftbeer.

So, if you happen be around Tiong Bahru area in Singapore, make sure you pay a visit to Potbellies. It is situated right beside NTUC along Kim Tian Road, you will not missed the outdoor table and flooring tiled with craftbeer bottle caps that beautifully decorate the place. However be informed though, that Potbellies will be rename to Lee Tai Fu soon, due to unintentional infringement of the same name of an establishment in the USA. Address can be found as follow.

Guinness Potato Chip

January 2, 2021 – 2:14 pm Comments Off

Try this the other day at Sid’s Pub @ Damansara Heights. Weirdly the chip have some infuse of Guinness stout flavour. Not heavy but have some light roasted and malty flavour there. What you think?

Paulaner Appreciation Dinner @ BoatHouse, TTDI

October 1, 2020 – 10:01 am Comments Off

Beerbeer was invited to Paulaner Appreciation Dinner at BoatHouse @ TTDI few weeks back. How can I reject beer and food? As most of you know that I always drunk and always hungry too… The above picture is the dishes that presented to us.

Obatzda (Bavarian Cheese Delicacy with Bread)
This dish is cheesy and nice. Pairing with beer can enhance the cheese flavour. Bread can be a bit filling, cracker will be a good alternative to it. But since it’s bavarian style, let’s stick with the tradition.

Griessnockerlsuppe mit Leberknodel
(Semolina Dumpling Soup with Liver Dumpling)
Light beefy soup with dumpling that look like meat balls. If you not a fan of liver you may not like the dish, but if you are a fan like me then the pairing works quite well. I actually quite enjoy it with Hefeweissbier.

Rinderrouladen mit Kartoffelknodel
(Beef Roulade with Mashed Potato)
After that we have this beef dish again. It may look like a normally meat ball with stuffing but the flavour of this is pack with beefy taste. The mashed is a good compliment to the tick flavours. It could be a bit filling eating this alone, is nicer to share this dish.

Some theatrical act while making the dessert sauce.

Kaiserschmarrn with Cherry Sauce
This is for sure a sweet tooth delight. A pancake with cherry sauce and strawberry, how can this go wrong. The sour and sweet of the strawberry does cut out some of the sweetness of the cherry sauce. Nice texture and good end to the meal.

Overall, I enjoy the meal especially a meal that I can paired with beer. The Oktoberfest Bier from Paulaner is a nice lager that works quite well with food. Certain dish may prefer to have it with hefeweissbier or Dunkel weiss. Having a beer to a dish is a bit too big portion, so if can share the beer and open up your palate will be good. Have fun with it and beside the usual German treats, maybe you can opt for the other dishes that you may find during this Oktoberfest. Cheers!
