Thursday, 4 August 2011, Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia has yet again been chosen to host the Asian leg of the Arthur’s Day 2011 global celebrations which will be the biggest worldwide celebration outside of Ireland. As a key highlight of the 3rd annual global Arthur’s Day celebration, GUINNESS® Malaysia has announced a 2 month long celebration, with a host of exciting parties themed ‘arTHURSDAY’, fun activities and unbelievable promotions culminating on the 23rd of September 2011.
Arthur’s Day is celebrated around the world to honour the date Arthur Guinness signed a 9,000 year lease on the St James Gate Brewery in 1759, and whose legacy has brought us the globally celebrated iconic black brew, GUINNESS®.
Kicking off in Ireland at 17:59 on 22 September 2011, Malaysia will end the 24 hour global celebration on the 23rd of September 2011 with a toast to ‘Arthur’. More than 40 countries including Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Caribbean nations, Indonesia, Australia, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and South Korea will join the celebrations.
Marketing Director of Guinness Anchor Berhad, Ms Yap Swee Leng said, “GUINNESS® is truly a global brand, enjoyed in over 150 countries worldwide and this year is certainly yet another milestone for this global icon. We are proud to announce that Malaysia has been selected yet again as one of the key venues for Arthur’s Day, and is the only venue in Asia selected to host the biggest celebration outside of Ireland.”
“Kuala Lumpur is a vibrant, progressive and international city with a colourful culture and people. Thus it is a truly Asian landmark and provides the perfect setting for a global celebration such as this. Furthermore, Malaysia is among the top ten markets in the world for GUINNESS®, and was the first Asian brewery opened outside Dublin. This year we have yet another remarkable event planned, and we expect to welcome local consumers as well as revellers from all over the world to join in the celebrations.”
The Arthur’s Day celebrations in Malaysia kicked off with an exclusive launch party held at Beer Factory, Sunway Giza in Kota Damansara today. GUINNESS® celebrated this landmark occasion with 100 lucky ‘Arthur’s’ and friends who raised their glasses in a toast ‘To Arthur’ and launched the Asian leg of this worldwide celebration right here in Kuala Lumpur. The lucky ‘Arthur’s’ were winners of an online reward program by GUINNESS® for its loyal Facebook fans and ardent fans of the world’s favourite black brew. In total, more than 400 loyal GUINNESS® fans changed their names to Arthur in tribute to Arthur Guinness and for a chance to be part of the Arthur’s Day Launch Party.
