McDowell’s Single Malt
Indian malt, courtosy of Stan when he is on BT there, he got this for I think less than 30 SGD when he travel to GOA. He got it for less than SGD 30 for me, if I remember correctly. This bottle is by McDowell’s Goa Distillery, 48.8% v/v, 75 proof, which doesn’ make sense to me, official bottling. Batch no BT.12 and bottling date is SEP. 08
Anyway, some interesting wording on the bottle.
“Deluxe brand”
comment: well, at least I know I didn’t got myself a cheapo brand
“use of alcohol is injurious to health”
comment: does that means it’s the best that we don’t drink at all ???
“consumption of liquor is injurious to health”
comment: why the f**k you would even bother to bottle this and sell ???
Nose: spices, mainly cinnamon, gingery, some tangy soury fruitiness here, may be dried tangerine peel, some coppery note too, quite ticklish to the nose.
Palate: black pepper sauce on beef steak, just a fade hint of malt, raw almond, followed by light oakiness.
Finish: dry, minty, salty, oaky and peppery, ended with alcohol bite at both side of the tongue and throat, long
Comment: savoury, should be able to go along with all sorts of steaks and lamb chops
water added
Nose: not ticklish anymore, some raw toufu and hints of tangerine peel
Palate: still not much malt here, mainly oak with very fade trace of honey
Finish: more oak, coated with malty sweetness, fruit cake and just a touch of strawberry sourness, longer than before
comment: water actually cut down the alcohol bite and brings out the fruity side of it, not a bad idea
This bottle under-ripe in my opinion, no age statement, but I think it should be aroud 4 -6 years, you can almost taste the raw spirit in it. However, I would like to compare this with the Amrut brand, which you can find it easily in Singapore to get more accurate impression of indian malt.
